Expert Guidance For This Crucial Stage

The window between ages two and three is a vital time. Language is exploding. Friendships are forming. Independence is pushing at every boundary. At Kid’s First Childcare Center in Layton, Utah, our Early Preschool program meets children right in the middle of it all, giving them the structure, freedom, and expert guidance they need to grow.

Potty Training Support Built Into the Program

The most common questions we hear from parents of 2-year-olds are about potty training. You don’t have to figure it out alone, and your child doesn’t need to be potty-trained to enroll in this class. Our Early Preschool teachers guide your child through bathroom routines, celebrate progress, and reinforce the independence and hygiene habits that make the process stick.

A Weekly Curriculum That Follows Your Child's Interests

We don’t use a rigid, predetermined curriculum in our Early Preschool classroom. Instead, our teachers build lesson plans each week based on what children in the class are most curious about. If the group is fascinated by bugs one week and construction trucks the next, the curriculum follows that lead. This child-directed approach ensures that every activity has real meaning.

What learning domains does the Early Preschool curriculum cover?

Language and literacy through daily storytime, circle time conversations, and teacher-led dialogue

Early math and science through sensory play, sorting activities, and nature exploration

Fine motor development through arts and crafts, puzzles, bead threading, and sensory bins

Gross motor skills through outdoor play, movement activities, and structured physical games

Social-emotional development through guided peer interaction and Love and Logic practices

Creative expression through music, dramatic play, and open-ended art experiences

“Children need the freedom and time to play. Play is not a luxury. Play is a necessity.”

Sensory Play Powers Brain Development

When children use their hands, ears, eyes, and bodies to explore materials, they are building new neural connections, developing motor control, expanding vocabulary, and practicing scientific thinking all at once. Our sensory activities range from water and sand play to playdough, slime, and nature materials.

What are the benefits of sensory play for 2 and 3-year-olds?

Builds new brain connections that support language, math, and problem-solving

Develops fine and gross motor skills through tactile and physical engagement

Supports language acquisition as children describe what they see, feel, and discover

Encourages curiosity and early scientific thinking through cause-and-effect exploration

Calms the nervous system, helping children regulate their energy and emotions

Learning Centers Invite Free Exploration

Our Early Preschool classroom is organized around themed learning centers that are always accessible. Teachers use intentional questions, language modeling, and gentle extension of skills as children choose from:

Love & Logic Builds Social-Emotional Skills for Life

Two and three-year-olds are still figuring out how to navigate friendships, frustration, and the gap between what they want and what is possible. Our teachers use the Love and Logic framework to help children build self-regulation, empathy, and communication skills. These are skills that will carry your child forward through every stage of development.

Nature-Based Adventures Expand Learning

Early Preschoolers get messy in the mud kitchen, explore our garden, splash in the water play zones, run in the open grass fields, and climb age-appropriate structures. Outdoor learning at this age builds physical strength, deepens curiosity, and provides children with a healthy outlet to let off steam.
